Thank you to all the Goodeze that were here today and to all our GOGS who couldn’t make it today, for all that you’ve done throughout the year! 💝
The spirit of Christmas was alive and well at the GOG Christmas Lunch at the Raiders Club today. From amazing Christmas, and non-Christmas themed goodies made with love for the Canberra Hospital, to some wonderfully inspired Secret Santa gifts, it really did feel like Christmas.
Of course, being a party there was also some fun and games, plenty of eating, a little drinking, lots of chatter and some wonderful Christmas inspired outfits, and being GOG, some hooking, some knitting and even some sewing in of last minute labels for donated goodies.
Huge thanks to the team who worked behind the scenes to make today happen and to everyone who came along, with a special shout out to our ‘Littlest Crochet Boss’, the Mission Stitchin’ crew and the wonderful Canberra Hospital team without whom all our stitching efforts wouldn’t be able to reach the people who need them most. It’s been an amazing year of growth and I can’t wait to see what the year ahead brings! 💕💕💕
So excited to make a fantastic start on our Chrissy delivery today at our Santa’s workshop! 🎄Thank you Goodeze for giving up your afternoon and to all who contributed to this first amazing batch of GOG ‘Christmas spirit’! 💖💕
Doing inventory is quite a job! 🤯 Each item its photographed, then the photo is uploaded to the cloud where it’s link is copied and embedded on the spreadsheet next to the donor’s name for permanent record and future reference. Massive THANK YOU for all the initials on your tags!! You save us hours of guessing and texting back and forward! 💕💕
When two of us work together it’s much faster, since one drives the laptop and the other takes photos and moves stock from the bench (to enter) to the table (complete, ready for sorting and packing). We’ve grown exponentially over the last year and have gone from cataloging 10 items after a working bee, to often over 60 in the past few months! So a huge thank you from me to Amanda. You have made this ever growing task more manageable and enjoyable.
Thank you to everyone who came along to our last GOG WB for the month. In addition to the usual exchange of knowledge and ideas, show and tell, good cheer and laughter that we are all accustomed to, we felt very privileged to have a visit from a couple of very special people today, Ashleigh and her mum Sue. Ashleigh recently spent a significant amount of time in ICU and received several Goodies from GOG including the very special ‘Zeb’ the Dogster. She popped in today to share with us how important receiving these gifts from GOG were to her and her family and wanted us to pass on her thanks to everyone involved in making these special items. I would like to thank Ashleigh and Sue sincerely, for taking the time to pop in today and for her very precious feedback (and the box of chockies!)😉. We wish her all the very best for her continued and speedy recovery! 💖💖
What a surprise Tess, Mel and I had today. Our support of GOG was recognized and we were nominated for a ‘Kind Award’. We received these pins by our Executive Director who thanked us for our support of the patient experience through the provision of the comfort care goods. We would like to acknowledge Carly Silberberg who took the time to write 3 nominations, who supported the project in its beginnings and who advocated for the project and sold the vision to our changing executive. Today GOG was formally recognized for upholding the values of ACT Health being kind and creating exceptional care together. Thanks GOGs, you do us proud.
Introducing our newest ‘Goodies’ – ‘Fiddle Mupsters’! 😁 Thanks to Kathryn, we now have a very special way to use the larger teddies and soft toys that are generously donated.
These’ Mupsters’ are designed to be used by patients with Alzheimers and Dementia and will help to provide comfort in a variety of ways. As well as having small crocheted items attached to keep fingers busy during distressing times, it is hoped that they will also be a soft furry companion to share the day with, or a comforting link to the past. 😄💖
There was a touch of Halloween and a whole lot of creativity on show at another fabulous Good Omen Goodeze working bee as members stitched, ate and chatted their way through the afternoon.
As well as Mary giving us an update on GOG developments and the ‘most wanted’ goods requested … blankets/goodies in indigenous colours and also in ‘male’ colours (including footy colours) are in high demand, it was lovely to hear from Kath who works in Canberra Hospital ICU, and is the chief point of contact for GOG, about the amazing impact GOG’s handcrafted goodies can have on people who are often at their most vulnerable while in ICU.
As always the amazing pile of handcrafted creations that will be passed onto the Canberra Hospital was testament to the generosity and skill of members.
20 Oct – The staff love the pillow slips that are filled with towels and act as splints to support wounds for deep breathing and coughing. Thanks GoGs! x
20 Oct – Today Mr Bojangles met his perfect match. It was love at first sight. Another successful Gogster adoption. Thank you GOGs!
17 Oct– This little guy was adopted. I have been asked to pass on this message from the patient who adopted this Gogster with consent.
“I have not experienced such kindness from others in a long time. I can not remember when I last received a gift. I want to thank the people who volunteer to bring such a random act of care and kindness to someone they have never met.”
Claire’s Presentation to Foundation Team
2 Oct – Today Claire gave a wonderful presentation to the Foundation Team of how we use the comfort goods to complement the delivery of patient care. It’s a great example of our partnership with GOG and how we are all part of a big team. Today we where reminded of that when a family spoke of how the comfort goods made a difference to their loved one’s hospital experience.
Here’s a glimpse of what happens on the other side of a GoG Working Bee! 😍 Thank you to Carly, Link, Kerry, Mel, Kath, and of course the other lovely staff at TCH ICU for all the work you do behind the scenes! 💕❤️
There are so many things I love about running GOG, but one of my absolute favorites; one that really nurtures and replenishes me is a visit to ‘Pat’s’! This Friday was no exception! I left with two bags full of Goodies and a heart full of ‘goodness’! 😁 The love and effort the ladies put into making these exquisite Goodies shows in every stitch that is made, right down to the hand made binding to go around the quilts, ‘patchworking’ together materials for the bandannas, to making sure each panel on the therapy pillowcases is the ‘right way up’!! ☺️💕
Many thanks to Chris, Marilyn, May and Pat! The ‘artworks’ you make bring such joy and comfort to so many people!😍 💕
