SFX Woolverines Delivery

Last week I had this special delivery of gorgeous Goodie dolls and rug from the SFX Wolverines! 🤩 They’ve continued to ply their craft, develop their skills and have produced some simply beautiful work! 😍. I can’t wait to see their creativity over the coming weeks! Thank you Sue for continuing to support GOG and inspiring and supporting so many amazing students. 💖

ICU Feedback March

Dear GOG Villiage,
Hope you are all well.
Just feeding back that we have been collaborating with infection control on the best ways to store and package the comfort goods.
Our team acknowledge how important the comfort care goods are at the moment.
Many patients are not able to have contact with their friends and family due to the visiting restrictions and recieving a special GOG gift means a lot.

Today we had two patients in our care that must have been the Rabbitos biggest fans.
They where so emotional when receiving the blankets.
Simple acts of kindness can make a big difference to someone’s day.
Thankyou GOGs for your kindness.

Hello to all the GOG community.
Just letting you know that we still continuing to give our your beautiful comfort care goods to our patients. We are working closely with infection control regarding packaging, storage and handling.
We continue to receive the most warmest and heartfelt feedback from families and patients.
Over the last few days nearly all the Gogsters have been adopted. According to our register the blankets are steadily being gifted.
The gowns have been most appreciated by our long term patients and we are continuing to supply to long term patients on the ward as well. We found one lady had been in a hospital gown for nearly 9 months. I will never forget how excited she was choosing new gowns, beanies and bandannas.
Thank you to the GOG and Mission Stitchin community
Let’s look after each other in our village and regularly check in with each other at a social distance of course.
Xx

A Sweet GOG Story….

Every thing we craft has a story, sometimes it’s a ‘simple’ one: a trip to the store to purchase yarn; a find from the GOG stash of yarn that sings to us; practicing a new stitch; or, working a well known favourite … sometimes, as with Kathryn and Marnie’s recent granny square rugs the story is more ‘complex’ and isn’t fully known as we pull together and finish work that some-one else started. Sometimes though, we know the story … earlier this month I was gifted a stash of yarn from my niece’s mother-in-law, she had passed away a number of years ago and it was only while the family were cleaning out the family home after the father-in-law’s death did the stash resurface. Hidden in the stash was a started granny rug with enough yarn to complete it, so in honour of the original crocheter and her family here is ‘Tricia’s Rug’ ready for the next chapter in its story …

Littlest Crochet Boss Progress Report

Some inspiration for you today brought to you by our ‘Little Crochet Boss’. He’s such an amazing role model and so many of our ‘littlies’ are wanting to follow in his footsteps and learn to Crochet. He was showing us where he started and what he’s up to now! A caring, resilient, creative, independent and principled young man! 💜

What have you got on your hook? Please post us some pictures! 😊

GOG Coronavirus Update

The situation regarding Covid-19 changes daily and GOG is making every effort to adapt to these changes, for the health and safety of all the members of our community. As you are aware, our last Working Bee was cancelled. It was unfortunate to miss out on such a strong community building event, but for the sake of the whole community, especially members who are particularly vulnerable at this time, we have had to cancel all in-person working bees.

The following is some important new information to keep everyone up to date.

1.       It is just as important as ever for people to find comfort in this trying time, which is what GOG has been doing since its founding, so goodies are still in need. We are asking our members to carry on stitching within their own homes if their situation allows, even though our in-person Working Bees have been cancelled for the foreseeable future. Thanks to our lovely supporters; Hobbysew and Crafty Frog, members will be able to continue to drop off Goodies at these businesses.  Any members who are self-isolating/self-quarantined and unable to leave their home can contact myself to arrange for a doorstep pickup.  Further, any members who may require supplies (Job for GOG packs, yarn, etc) can contact myself via email or Facebook PM and we will arrange to supply packs.

2.       Virtual Working Bees – Last weekend we trialled a Facebook virtual working bee where members chatted and posted photos of their current projects, etc. We would like to continue to conduct our Working Bees online until we can meet again in person and are now working through the logistics to provide further virtual content at this time and will inform members of the details soon.

3.       ‘Weaving our Community Together’ – Social connection and building communities is a major aspect of GOGs charter. With that in mind we would like to offer a ‘buddy system’ for our members to be able to continue to connect for a chat, a check-in and to challenge and support each other while continuing GOG’s creative and caring atmosphere. Self-isolation should not be ‘social isolation’ and GOG would like to be able to continue to support its members especially during these difficult and uncertain times.  To that end I will be putting out a Facebook poll to ask members if they would like to participate and will then pair up those members using a ‘random name selection’ program for a bit of fun.  If you would like to join us but don’t have Facebook, please email me and we will ensure you are included.

Thanks for all you do for GOG and our community!  Please take care of yourselves and each other and of course, Keep Calm and Keep on Stitchin’!

😃

Palliative Care Service Project at TCH

The work of the end-of-life group is amazing! Thank you for everything that you guys do. It is a privilege to be able to make a small contribution and be part of it. 💜

Canberra Health ServicesMarch 8

Our comfort care packs provide physical and psychological comfort to patients at the end of their lives.

Toni Ashmore, Senior Project Manager for the Territory Wide Palliative Care Service Project, says the packs include things like beanies, gowns, socks lovingly hand crafted by members of the community and fans and weighted blankets to promote physical comfort.

‘We also include materials for families to take handprints, thumbprints and locks of hair stored in a lovely memory box’, says Toni. ‘We are grateful to Canberra Hospital Foundation for enabling the purchase of these items’.

We recently heard from the family of a man who was admitted to an oncology ward for end of life comfort care. ‘We will long remember the kindness, compassion, professionalism and empathy of every member of staff who cared for our Dad, and us, so very well… We’ll be forever grateful.’
